What does God say about money, the hustle and success? Tune into Season 4, episode 1 of the Lens of Faith podcast, Chasing Success. We’ll dig into scripture and I share insight on the love of money.

Money is necessary in this world to pay bills, build a life, bless others but it should never be our “why” in life. God tells us over and over in scripture that money can be a trap.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” -1 Timothy 6

God doesn’t tell us that money in general is evil, but the love of money is. The pursuit of the temporary, idolizing the American dream and solely chasing profit lead to emptiness. Don’t chase $$, chase peace. Don’t pursue the temporary while abandoning the eternal.

What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” -Matthew 16:26

You see, the reason godliness with contentment is great gain is because it promotes a life of peace and humility. Too much success can cultivate what God hates; which is pride. The current “self made” culture and mindset can distance us from God. We are not self made, we never were. Who we are and what we have is all credited to God’s goodness. He is to be thanked on the regular.

Eternal Matters

Chasing the temporary things of this world not only end up disappointing us but it’s all in vain. We can’t take it with us. However, the eternal treasures last forever. It’s people’s souls, giving to the kingdom and advancing his work by giving him the glory that matters when it’s all said and done. Whose kingdom are you building?

Don’t chase $$, chase peace.”
