Holy week is a week of remembrance. It allows us an opportunity to reflect upon the shift in humanity that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross launched. It starts with Palm Sunday when Jesus enters the city of Jerusalem. The week leads us through the Last Supper, His crucifixion, and ends on Easter Sunday with His resurrection. This is the basis of Christianity, His sacrifice launched the New Covenant God promised and many had prophesied throughout the Old Testament. Each day of Holy Week allows us to peek into the heart of our Savior at intently close proximity. His love for us is reflected in every significant step toward the cross, every breath up to the last, and His resurrection.
Oh How He Loves Us
Jesus constantly proved who he claimed to be on earth. He performed miracles, raised the dead and set people free but they still killed him. He was betrayed by those closest to him, mocked, tortured and hung on a tree as an innocent man. When Jesus was on that cross, YOU were on his mind.
Just last night, I rewatched one of the best films of all time, the Passion of the Christ. This film is powerful. I remember watching it in the theaters when it came out and convicts were turning themselves in, atheists and muslims came to Christ and many miracles took place. It is still the highest box office of all time earning $370.8 million!
Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus, lost 45 lbs., was struck by lightening, accidentally whipped twice leaving a 14″ scar, dislocated his shoulders and suffered pneumonia and hypothermia from standing almost naked on a cross for several hours outdoors. And when he was interviewed about it, he said, “That was all a small price to pay compared to what Jesus went through for us.”
This film marked a generation and is still changing lives.

Crown of Thorns
I’ve been to Israel 3 times, on my most recent trip during a hike with my group, I saw a bush of long sharp thorns. One of our guides told me that it was the same bush they used to make Jesus crown of thorns. So I broke off a branch to take home as a reminder of the price Jesus paid for me and my sins. Every time I see it on my shelf, it is a humble reminder of his great love for me.
This week stop, reflect and thank him for his sacrifice.
The good news is resurrection Sunday is coming! Jesus is alive and well. He still performs miracles and resurrects dead things!
Happy holy week! Leah
