Is it just me or are you wrecked by Sundays news The sudden tragic loss of American great, Kobe Bryant, His daughter and the precious seven others has hit America hard. I have been in a funk all week. It’s very rare that I become so emotional when I hear the news of another celebrity lost. I might be sad for a moment but I don’t know them personally. But this has got me shook.
So last night while sitting in the still quiet space that is needed to hear from the Holy Spirit, I started questioning and hoping that everybody on that helicopter was right with God. Then I started thinking about how Kobe “had it all”. He worked hard His entire life, was successful, famous, had a beautiful family but without warning was taken in a moment.
I sat and really dealt with that. I allowed those facts to sink in. Then suddenly I blurted out, “What are you chasing” Does it matter for eternity” I was reminded of what matters.
For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul” -Mark 8:35-36
Satisfaction
You see, the bible makes it very clear that we are not promised tomorrow and only what is done for Him will last. We are all chasing something. Whether you’re seeking fulfillment in money, relationships or appearance. The American dream will not satisfy.
My goal for 2020 is to chase after Jesus and in turn love others well. I do not want to live this life gaining treasures that I can not keep.
I challenge you to evaluate your life and how you spend your time. Hug, forgive, spread love and make each moment count. Tell your unsaved co-workers, friends and others about the hope you have in Christ.
And let’s keep the families left behind in our daily prayers.
