One of my favorite bible stories is of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Most people know this as amazing because they were put in a fiery furnace, had Jesus in the fire with them, and were not harmed in any way. That is mind-blowing. But as I was just rereading the story, the Holy Spirit spoke to me a fresh revelation.
The men replied to the King, “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majestys hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” -Daniel 3: 17-18
They didn’t step into a horrific fire, with any knowledge of God saving them. They were more than willing to give up their life for the one true God. Yes, He is all-powerful and could save them but they made sure the king knew, that even if we are not delivered, we will not bow. Now that is a true Jesus follower.
You see many of us are going through rough seasons. We are holding onto promises from God, waiting on a word to come to pass and if we are not careful then it can become our why. It can become the focus. The promises can become what motivates us to worship.
I’m here to remind us that even if He does not deliver, He’s still worth it all. He deserves our worship and our whole heart. We are not living faithfully because of promises He’s made, but because of who He is alone. He is the promise. He is the prize at the end of the race.
Let’s pray:
“Lord, give me a heart of no compromise. Amen.”
