The world is full of bad news and we are saturated with it. It is rare that I see Jesus in the media so when this recent story aired, it hit me with great emotion. Most of us know the recent events of a cop walking into what she thought was her apartment and killing an unarmed man that she thought was an intruder.
What you may not know is the powerful display of forgiveness and mercy that happened in the court room that day. When Botham Jean’s brother took the stand he was a pure reflection of Jesus:

I felt the Holy Spirt hit me hard as I stayed weeping at this beautiful, undeserved act of pardon. It was an incredible moment inside a Dallas courtroom. Botham Jean’s brother told Amber Guyger that he forgives her, then the two shared a long embrace. And even more powerful was when the Judge stepped down to also hug her and give her a bible.
I could not refuse her a hug. She asked me if I thought that God could forgive her and I said, Yes, God can forgive you and has.’ – Judge Kemp
Those that know me, know that I would love to be a Judge one day because of my heart for justice. Well, I would want to be a spirit-filled one like Judge Kemp. You see, forgiveness brings freedom. When God shows you that you don’t deserve His unconditional forgiveness yet He gives it freely. How then can you not forgive your offender? We must be willing to forgive even when it hurts.
Let’s Pray:
“Lord, I repent for holding onto offenses and hurts. I release _______ and all the pain he/she has brought me. Please free my heart of any offense. Soften my heart and give me your love and mercy. Thank you for your unconditional love and forgiveness. Amen.”
