Though I’m a proud, true blue all-American girl, we have an undeniable flaw. The problem is, Jesus is an option. Take it or leave it. Believers strive to stay comfortable, do good enough, and make it through the gates of heaven. Bibles collect dust. Social media has become an idol and revival is for those “other people”.
A powerful awakening happened to me last month. At the same time that I was on a study tour trip to Israel, my sister and bro-in-law were in Africa. Her hero in the faith is renowned global Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke, and due to failing health, it was His last crusade.
She was sharing with me how challenging it was there. Even though staying at the Sheraton hotel, you cannot drink the water, even the bottled water, is contaminated. The food is horrible. The government is corrupt. The poverty is unthinkable. Yet this is in Lagos, Nigeria which is known as the “wealthy” part of Africa, the “Big Apple of Africa.”
She was feeling heartbroken by the poverty there. Masses of Africans would walk, barefoot, for 3 days or more just to attend the crusade. Here we skip church if it’s raining.

After a couple of days of witnessing how poor they seem, the Holy Spirit spoke to her in a way she will never forget. He said, “They are not poor. They are the richest of all nations because all they have is me.”
Wow.
When she opened her eyes she didn’t see them as poor. She had Jesus’ perspective. When teenagers ran up to her asking for prayer, to be “rich like the Americans”, she shared her revelation and asked them to pray for her instead.
The presence of God filled the crusade in Nigeria like no other place. The outpouring of miracles and healings by the power of God was witnessed. Even though Reinhard has led crusades in over 200 countries, he said he favors Nigeria because he has never seen such a move of God.
