Happy Thanksgiving! As we end this holiday week full of food and family, I am reminded of how good God is. Not for what He has given me but rather for who He is.
Things of this world, all the comforts of this life will come and go. If our thankfulness is based on the tangible then we can easily become discontent. We must keep our heart grateful and focused on His character which never changes.
My habit is to awake each day verbally thanking Him for who He is no matter what mood I’m in. This keeps me with a attitude of gratitude.
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is Gods will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thess. 5:18
God is not telling us to be thankful because work is bringing success, being surrounded by loving relationships, being in good health or living the American dream. Instead be thankful in ALL circumstances. In little or much living with a heart of of gratitude.
This keeps our heart free of disappointment and discouragement. For His character is trustworthy. His plan is perfect and He is always faithful to those that are His.
Thank you Lord for your unconditional love and for your faithfulness. Thank you for your protection and your mercy. I give you thanks for your kindness. Thank you for your presence.
Keeping our heart grateful for the unchanging ways of God will keep us steadfast and not swayed by the unpredictable gains and losses of this life. In order to do this well, you must stay focused on the positive.
We live in a day where the world draws us to the negative but time spent in Jesus presence keeps us full of hope and gratefulness despite the constant changes that surround us.
Let us thank Him for who He is not just this week but daily.
