Happy New Year friends! I’m praying that you experience heavenly, transformative encounters with Jesus that will bring him great glory here on earth! As I enter into this new year, the holy spirit has really put a message on my heart to share with you.
GRIEVING THE SPIRIT
We have all had times when we were younger that we lived foolishly but God is calling us to grow up. To grow up in our faith, to mature and live with sensitive to the holy spirits conviction.
I remember when I started asking God to give me QUICK CONVICTION on things that were separating me from a right relationship with him, he didn’t hesitate.
I can no longer watch just anything or listen to the worlds music regularly. He convicts me when I’m angry, offended and not quick to forgive. I can no longer hang out with just anyone. The holy spirits conviction is quick when I think thoughts or say words that don’t align with him.
You see, all those ways we feed our flesh or react out of a broken place, it is all grieving the spirit. And if we push past that feeling, if it goes unchecked, it will lead to separation from our Lord.
Put off falsehood and speak truthfully, in your anger do not sin, Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer. Do not let any unkind talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, slander and sexual immorality. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” -Ephesians 4: 25-32
DECEPTION
One of the scariest things that can happen to a Christian, is to become numb to the holy spirits conviction, to be so desensitized, that you start justifying everything and no longer have accountability at all in your life.
This happened to Samson. God set this man apart but he turned from God by allowing lust to take over his life. He no longer was living holy or right with God. He chose a life of destruction. And the bible tells us that the Lord left him and he didn’t even know it. Wow. What a scary thought, to have the holy spirit leave you and you are so caught up that you don’t even know it.
Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”
He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.” -Judges 16:20
SEARCH YOUR HEART
We are not to live according to the standards of this world friends, God calls us to be set apart and holy.
I encourage you to take some time in silence and search your heart. Ask God to show you any way in you that is separating you from a right relationship with him. Allow him to reveal to you any secret sin or compromising way. Repent and start to ask him for a sensitivity to the holy spirit.
Grieving the spirit leads to destruction but his quick conviction is a beautiful thing.
Be Encouraged, Leah
