Some of us have things in our lives that we are expecting God to come through on. You may be waiting patiently in faith for promises to come to pass, prayers to be answered and hope restored. The Holy Spirit spoke to me while reading Mark 5, the story of Jesus raising the dead girl to life.
Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at His feet. He pleaded earnestly with Him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live. So Jesus went with Him.”
Her father in desperation and fully believing that if Jesus would just touch His daughter, she would be healed. He didn’t ask if it was possible but came with confidence.
Some people came from the house of Jairus. Your daughter is dead, they said. Why bother the teacher anymore?”
So even though he believed, those in His community had a limited amount of faith.
Overhearing what they said, Jesus told Him, Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
Isn’t He always urging us to just believe?
When they came to the home, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. He went in and said to them, Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep. But they laughed at Him.”
You see most people, even those closest to you can only believe in what makes sense to them. They are not walking your journey and they may not know what a miracle looks like or even the sound of God’s voice.
He took her by the hand and said to her, Little girl, I say to you, get up!” Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around. At this they were completely astonished.”
Hold Tight
If you are holding onto what you know is true in your heart, stay unshakeable. No matter how dead it looks, how lifeless it seems, really it’s just asleep until Jesus touches it.
